Perched above the Arroyo Seco, this Pasadena Residence has been reoriented to embrace its breathtaking views. In collaboration with JM|A+D and Ibarra Structural Engineering, the decades-old home underwent a full remodel, reorganizing the floor plan around family gathering spaces and the surrounding landscape. Thoughtfully executed additions maintained existing rooflines while strategically framing views of the arroyo and surrounding trees.

The home’s arrival sequence flows through a breezeway, leading either to the elevated kitchen or a more intimate library and living space. A vaulted main living area connects the kitchen, dining, and lounge, while sleeping quarters are separated by a service bar with storage, a vestibule, and a laundry room—an intentional buffer designed during the pandemic to delineate work and rest spaces.

The remodel introduced an innovative scissor truss, allowing for higher ceilings while integrating skylights to naturally diffuse light. Outdoor spaces include a kitchen, dining and lounge areas, and a pool with an integrated jacuzzi. A custom deck at the deep end doubles as a playful launch point, perfectly suited for the client’s two young boys
